New Horizon Press History
New Horizon Press: Real People. Incredible Stories.
The New Horizon list accents true-life heroes whose actions right society’s and individual’s wrongs. “For over 20 years, New Horizon Press has sought out and celebrated the unsung heroes in our midst, whose extra-ordinary actions have impacted their lives and our world,” said Dr. Joan S. Dunphy, President and Editor-in Chief, in a 2003 interview.
New Horizon Press was established in 1982 and was originally an imprint of the distinguished small publishing company, Horizon Press. New Horizon Press is now a separate entity. Located in Liberty Corner, NJ, New Horizon Press resides in a historic building which has been constantly renovated to accommodate the ever expanding company. In the spring of 2005, workers began construction of an additional facility that will contain offices for reference, mailing and shipping.
New Horizon Press publishes twelve to fourteen books a year, while developing three primary lines of titles: hardcover, tradepaper and children’s books. The company focuses on true crime, battles for justice, current events with a journalistic stance as well as, psychological and social problems, women’s and men’s issues, and parenting advice written by experts with credentials in their fields. Introduced in 1992, Small Horizons, our illustrated children’s “Let’s Talk” series teaches crisis, coping, tolerance and service skills. Expanding the scope and success of NHP’s books are targeted promotions and publicity via local and national print, TV shows and strong subsidiary rights
A former college professor who has taught at Long Island University, Drew University and Rutgers University, Dr. Dunphy still enjoys teaching as well as publishing. New Horizon Press has an internship program for currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate university students to learn all aspects of the publishing industry. Interns work for six months and are rotated through the company’s different departments in order for them to learn all aspects of the publishing business and gain university credit as well as professional references.
New Horizon Press is willing to work with first time authors and will take on extensive rewriting and editing to get the story told.
