Fall The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small Town by Ron Franscell One chilly autumn night in 1973, Evil strode into Casper, Wyoming, stalking and taking two of their own, eleven-year-old Amy Burridge and her eighteen-year-old half-sister Becky Thomson. That night the picturesque steel expansion bridge that spans the 110-foot drop above the deep river was the scene of a horrific life-altering crime. Hometown boy, journalist and award-winning author Ron Franscell was a young boy when murder struck his close-knit community, but everyone he knows was touched. Franscell has interviewed the key people in the investigation and aftermath, including the rescue diver (who found Amy's body and never dived again), jurors, newspaper reporters and police investigators. Forever haunted by the tragedy, Franscell remained in close contact with every child who grew up in that neighborhood at the time or with their families. Thirty years after the crime, Franscell returns to Wyoming to explore the effects of evil and its impact on the people and town of Casper. Like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Fall looks deeply into the face of evil, and shows it as something familiar to all of us. Blending the can't-look-away nakedness of a monstrous crime thriller with an accomplished author's life-changing personal experience, Fall is a gripping true crime narrative and a poignant exploration of survivor guilt, community justice, the enduring effects of homicide, and how a brutal act forever changed one peaceful American town. Ron Franscell, a native of Casper, Wyoming and an alumni of the University of Wyoming, has been hailed among the rising stars in the literary world. The San Francisco Chronicle listed his first novel, Angel Fire, among the Best 100 Novels of the 20th Century West. His second novel, The Deadline, was heralded by the Poisoned Pen as one of the 25 best crime fictions of 1999. He has also won the prestigious Wyoming Literary Fellowship in 1996. His career has spanned more than 20 years in Santa Fe, N.M., Wyoming and California's Bay Area, and garnered several national awards. As an essayist and book reviewer, his work has appeared regularly in such newspapers as The Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Chicago Sun-Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, San Jose Mercury-News, Denver Post, Portland Oregonian, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Miami Herald and The Moscow (Russia) Times. Franscell currently resides in Beaumont, Texas where he is the Managing Editor of the Beaumont Enterprise (Hearst Newspapers).
