Murder, No Doubt The True Story of the Detective Who Unlocked the Shocking Secrets of the Boxcar Serial Killer by
William G. Palmini, Jr. When a down-on-his-luck Vietnam veteran is murdered next to the tracks in Albany, California, a small town outside San Francisco, Detective Sergeant Bill Palmini takes command of the case and swiftly sends a trusted informant to infiltrate the shadowy subculture of rail hoppers. What the veteran cop doesn't know is that the murderer is already thousands of miles away and the brutal killing is just one of scores he has committed. Palmini learns that a seemingly innocuous group, the FTRA—Freight Train Riders of America—is in reality a drug-fueled, counter-culture gang from hell that robs, rapes and murders as it pleases. Worse still, the man he is hunting is one of the pack's most feared and brutal members. When the killer is captured, Palmini interrogates him and the two form a strange, inexplicable bond. Eliciting the criminal’s confession, the cop is shocked to hear a horrifying tale of a fourteen-year killing spree that left as many as 100 bloodied bodies in twenty-eight states. Though the serial killer is sentenced to life in prison in Oregon, the gang, estimated by the authorities to count up to five thousand members in its ranks, remains a dangerous element on the rails to this day. Working to make the nation’s rails safer for us all, Palmini continues to work with the FBI and law enforcement officials across the country to bring this violent band of criminals to justice. William G. Palmini is a decorated cop with thirty-four years in the Albany, CA Police Department. He uses his talents as an Elvis impersonator to present traffic safety programs to children and teens, for which he has received an honorary Gold Record from the Recording Industry of America. A past recipient of the J. Standard Baker Award from the International Association of Police Chiefs, he is a private investigator in the San Francisco Bay area, where he resides. Tanya Chalupa is a respected journalist and communications professional specializing in law enforcement and traffic safety issues.
